Back in AZ

I’m back in the land of few people and much snow after an uneventful five hour and fifteen minute flight across the USA. Five hours is a long time to be in the air, but I would much rather do a straight flight like I had than be like the guy sitting next to me. He flew from Massachusetts this morning, through DC, through Phoenix, to his home in Ontario tonight. Weird, I know. He said it was the way they routed him. The flight attendants had a “Worst Driver’s License Picture” contest on the plane; I didn’t get ‘worst’ place but I did win a free drink ticket.

I took a shuttle from the airport to campus, uphill all the way –from 1200 feet elevation of Phoenix to 7000 ft. at NAU. There’s two feet of glaciated snow on the picnic table outside the door and snow is piled everywhere. My roommates aren’t back yet and all is quiet at Gillenwater. Starbucks, Pizza Hut, and Chick-Fil-A are still shuttered. I’m tired, my stuff is spread out on the floor around me, I have no food or coffee, so I think I’m going to call it a day and get real tomorrow. Later…
